BU066: Burnham No. 55
Date: c1950s
Size: Capped - 5 5/16 inches; posted - 5 7/8
inches.
A
very unusualy glossy cocoa coloured Burnham No. 55 from the
late 1950s or early 1960s. It is in excellent condition, the only
damage I can see being a little palating thinning to the pocket
clip. You can see on the close-up that the pocket clip looks a
little paler than the rest of the metalwork, though I don't think it
has actually lost all its plating in any one area. Other than
that, there are no splits, cracks, chips
or even any noticeable surface scratches. The cap top is pointed
and square in cross-section. This slowly gives way to a circular
section as the cap nears the lip. It is fitted with a gold plated
pocket clip imprinted "BURNHAM 55" down the stem. There is a
single
gold plated band at the cap lip. The barrel unscrews
to reveal the aerometric-style ink filler. It has a brushed steel
sac guard, and I have replaced the perished latex sac with a clear
silicone one. The nib is a fine point Burnham in 14 carat gold
and in a medium point. I have fully serviced this pen. The nib is very smooth
to write with. It produces a lovely wet and medium
width consistent line.
