CS255: Conway Stewart Universal No. 479, boxed.
Date: c1930s
Size: Capped - 5 1/8 inches, posted
- 6 3/8 inches.
This very attractive and glossy blue and black
marbled Conway is in really lovely condition. I have looked
over it carefully but cannot find any real damage on the pen at
all. There are signs of some very minor colour change to the cap
and barrel - fading, mainly - but this is much less obvious than the
pictures would have you believe. The cap has a black hard rubber
top button that has a
very nice colour with no fading. The washer-style pocket clip
is chrome plated and has the "CS" cipher at the top within a diamond
shaped cartouche, and at the bottom, a diamond shaped terminal.
There is no cap band on this pen. The barrel has a
short chrome plated filling lever with a circular end tab that also has
"CS imprinted, this time within a circle. The barrel imprint
is good and crisp and still in very nice condition. The
section is in black hard rubber and again has a very good deep rich
black colour. The nib is a 14 carat Conway Stewart No. 1 in a
medium point. The white paperboard box is much the worse for
wear, with quite a bit of writing on it. It comes complete with
the original
instruction/guarantee leaflet.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib is very smooth in action and also has some softness
to it giving it a nice springy feel when writing, and some very
attractive line width variation with a little extra pressure.
