CS261 Conway Stewart No 106 Fountain Pen and No. 42 Pencil Set, boxed.
Date: c1960s
Size: Capped - 5
7/16 inches; posted - 5 7/8 inches.
This is quite a curious looking set. The pen
appears to me to be a Conway take on the Parker 45. Like the
45, it has a semi-hooded nib and a Aerometric-type filler (Conway
Stewart called this a "Pressac" filler). The set is in
excellent condition, with very glossy Prussian blue caps and barrels
with no noticeable surface scratches. The only damage I can
see on this set is some plating wear to the pencil's point, which, as
usual, looks a lot worse in the photographs than it does in "person".
The caps are fitted with black top buttons and gold plated
pocket clips with the Conway Stewart monogram in a diamind shaped
cartrouch at the shoulder and a diamond shaped terminal at the bottom.

Fountain Pen
The barrel imprint is very crisp and deep. The
barrel unscrews to reveal the "Pressac" filling mechanism.
The sac guard is still bright and shiny and undamaged.
The nib is made from 14 carat gold and in a fine point.

Pencil
This is a propel-repel pencil You twist the
cap to wind the 0.9mm lead in and out. The cap can also be
pulled off and below is an unused pink eraser. Below the eraser are several spare leads. The barrel has
a very good deep and crisp imprint, and the point is gold plated.
I have fitted a fresh 0.9mm lead in the mechanism so it is
all ready to go.

Box
A very nice hard shell case. A black and white diagonal striped pattern on the outside with a cream coloured satin pad on
the inside. All very clean and tidy with just a little but of corner and edge scuffing to the outside.

I have fully serviced this set. The nib is very smooth and writes with a very nice wet and consistent fine
width line. Althuogh not uncommon in themselves, this set distinguishes itself with its excellent condition.
