ES254: Esterbrook SJ, No. 9550 firm extra-fine nib.
Date: c1950
Size: Capped - 4 13/16 inches;
posted - 5 15/16 inches.
The Esterbrook SJ is the smallest of the J series pens,
being both shorter and slimmer than the full-sized J. The
beautiful silver grey pearlised cap and barrel on this pen
have an excellent glossy sheen. I can see no damage at all on
this pen - not even any surface scratches to either cap or barrel.
The top of the cap and end of the barrel are both decorated
with stepped black "jewels". The pocket clip is ribbed and
chrome plated, as is the cap band and filling lever. All the
trim is completely undamaged with no brassing. The barrel
imprint is nice and sharp and crisp with good depth. The nib
is a No. 9550 firm extra-fine renew-point. These stainless
steel nibs are screw-in units and are interchangeable with other
Esterbrook Re-new points. This one is undamaged.
I have fully restored this pen. It lays down a
lovely extra-fine, wet and consistent line. The nib is very
smooth when writing even though it is such a fine point.
