Kyo-Maki-e techniques have survived and thrived for over one thousand years since the Heian period. Kyo-Maki-e décorative art can be seen at the Emperor's Palace, on musical instruments and ancient temples and on various Japanese lacquer wares. Kyo-Maki-e art gives a feeling of beauty and luxury with the typical simplicity of Japanesee culture as exemplified in the traditional Tea Ceremony, etc. Such simplicity of Kyo-Maki-e is both stylish and refined in design, respecting traditional Japanesee culture.
