SH1281: Wasp Vacuum-Fill.
Date: c1930s
Size: Capped - 5 1/16 inches; posted - 6 3/16 inches.
WASP
(W.A. Sheaffer Pen) was Sheaffer's slightly less
expensive line. This glossy black Vacuum-Fill is in excellent
plus
condition. It has probably been used once or twice, but I would
think not more than that. Wasp pens are quite unusual -
especially in such fine condition as this one. Although it is
called a Vacuum0-Fill pen, it is actually a lever filler! The cap
has a
conical ended top and a very nice tapered gold plated pocket clip
with a circular terminal and a single gold plated cap band below.
All the trim is bright and
shiny and I can see no damage on it at all. The black celluloid
of the cap and barrel shows no noticeable surface scratches or any
other damage come to that. The barrel has a conical end to match
the cap top with a very deep and clear barrel imprint. It has a
long and slender gold plated filling lever with a circular end tab.
The nib is a lovely little WASP nib made from 14 carat gold and
in a medium point.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib
is very smooth and writes with a very nice wet and consistent medium
width line. I would class this nib as semi-flexible and it will
certainly provide some lovely and almost effortless line width
variation as you write.
