SW347: Swan Self-Filler No. 3162.
Date: c1940s
Size: Capped - 5 1/16 inches; posted
- 6 1/8 inches.
A late 1940s glossy jet black Swan with gold filled
trim. There are no chips, splits or cracks to either cap or barrel, and
not noticeable surface scratches either.
The pen has a distinctive torpedo shape. As far as I can
see, the pen is damage-free.
The dome-topped cap has
a ball-ended gold filled pocket clip with the Swan trade mark at the
top. There is also a single narrow cap
band. The
barrel imprint is deep and very crisp. Opposite, the long
and slender filling lever is gold filled with a small circular end tab.
The hard
rubber section still has a deep black colour with no noticeable fading.
The nib is a lovely little Swan No. 1 in 14 carat yellow gold
and
in a fine point.
I have fully serviced this pen. The pen fills
nicely and writes effortlessly with a very smooth fine width and
wet
line. The nib is also quite soft and will produce some very
attractive line with variation with no more than normal writing
pressure.
