WS022: Wing Sung No. 308.
Date: c1980s
Size: Length - 5 1/2 inches capped; 6 1/4 inches posted. A
new old-stock Wing Sung pen from China. This pen is part of a consignment of old stock Chinese pens that I have recently purchased. It has never been inked
or used, and it looks to be totally undamaged too. Wing Sung are the "other" major Chinese pen manufacturer after Hero. The Wing Sung pens are rather interesting as most of them use a conical nib that is basically a copy of the Sheaffer Triumph nib from the 1940s and 1950s. This pen is beautifully finished with a gunmetal cap and barrel with panels of silvery striped pattern over the top. It is a slightly more chunky pen than most of the other Wing Sungs I currently have. The top of the cap is tapered and gold plated, and the pocket clip, which looks a little bit like a Parker Sonnet clip
is also gold plated. Around the cap lip is a gold plated band and above this is the imprint. The gold plated barrel end is also tapered. The section is black, and the nib is of the conical type. Unscrewing the barrel, the pen is fitted with a Parker Aerometric style filler, so it is bottle fill only. The nib would
be a fine point, but Wing Sung nibs always seem to come up on the narrow side, so I
would say this was an extra-fine point.
I
did just dip the nib to get the writing sample below. It feels
very smooth despite its fineness and writes with a good wet and
extra-fine line. As with most Chinese pens from the more well-known manufacturers, these are nearly always good writers.
