PA3254 Parker 51 Insignia (Broad Stub)

Date: c1948

Size: Length Capped - 137mm; Length Posted - 154mm.

This is a beautiful American-made all gold filled Parker 51 with a glossy black hood.  There is a little damage on this pen; a small area of plating loss on the side of the cap and a small and shallow ding in the barrel that I was unable to photograph successfully.  Other than that, though, it is in very nice, shiny condition.  Cap and barrel are both decorated with the "converging lines" pattern.  The cap is marked "PARKER" and "1/10 14K GOLD FILLED".  The cap is topped by a grey "jewel" with the gold filled Parker arrow pocket clip below.  The body of the cap is decorated with groups of vertical incised lines that converge at the top.  The glossy black lucite barrel and hood are in very nice condition with no splits, cracks or chips.  The barrel unscrews to reveal the shiny chrome plated aerometric filler with its recommendation to only use Superchrome ink!  The filler is still fitted with its original ply-glass ink sac.  These sacs seem to go on forever, and it will probably be still going strong in another 50 years time.  At the forward end of the barrel is the main imprint - "MADE IN USA" with the date code for 1948 following, so this is a very early Aerometric pen.  The nib is in 14 carat gold and is undamaged in a rather unusual broad stub point.

I have fully serviced this pen.  The nib writes with a lovely smooth line, and it has a good wet ink flow.  As this is a sub nib it will produce some line width variation for you as you write from a medium to a good solid broad.
