CS1069 Conway Stewart No. 67 Fountain Pen and No. 44 Pencil Set, boxed. (Medium).

Date: c1960s

Size: Capped - 133mm; posted - 153mm.

This early 60s Conway Stewart pen set is in beautiful condition, having probably been hardly ever used.  It is presented here with its original box.  The '67 fountain pen was an upmarket version of the '57, with a bright polished metal cap, and sharing the Aerometric-style Pressac filling mechanism.  The cap has a teal coloured conical "jewel" and rolled gold Conway Stewart pocket clip.  The body of the cap is still bright - probably rhodium or chrome plated - and has a mirror polished seurface, that, whilst it has the usual very fine and wispy scratches, still shows very well and sets off the pen beautifully.  The trim is in very fine condition with no damage on the clips at all.  Both caps and barrels have a lovely original sheen.

Fountain Pen

The barrel imprint is very crisp and clear.  The barrel unscrews to reveal the "pressac" filler.  These are similar to Parker's aerometric fillers.  All appears lovely and corrosion-free and even the ink sac is still pretty much perfectly clear. The 14 carat gold Conway Stewart nib is also the original and it is in a medium point.

Pencil

The cap pulls off revealing an apparently unused pink eraser.  The chromed point does exhibit a tiny bit of discolouration.  I have fitted a fresh lead into the mechanism and the pencil is working perfectly, the lead winds in and out at a twist of the cap.

Box

The original hard-shell case has a cream-coloured textured outer - there is some wear to one corner and a couple of small stains to the outside.  Both lid and base are brass bound and the pinkish satin interior is still very nicely preserved.

I have fully serviced this set.  The nib feels very smooth and it writes with an excellent wet and medium width line.  The model 67 is very uncommon, and this is only the second example I have been able to offer for sale in over 20 years.  It is a bonus that it is in such fine condition, along with its matching pencil.
