A late model octagonal gold plated Conway Stewart ballpoint and pencil set presented here in its original box. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no noticeable scratches and just a little wear to the plating on the pencil's point. Both pieces sport a "Conway Stewart" engraved branding to the barrel, along with "UK".
The ballpoint has a very unusual cam-based extending mechanism - basically, you screw in the knurled crown to extend the point - unscrew to retract it, and continue unscrewing to remove it. The mechanism works perfectly. Luckily, although the original refill is predictably dried up, this pen will accept the Schmidt 800 size refills, and I will include one with the pen along with the original refill, so you are all ready to go with this.
A propel-repel pencil that works by twisting the point. The crown will unscrew to allow access to a lead storage area in the barrel. Although there are no spare 1.18mm leads currently in the pencil I have installed a fresh one into the mechanism which works perfectly.
The original paperboard box has been in the wars a little bit - it has a water stain on the lid, and some edge and corner wear. There is also a "dent" in the centre of the lid, making its profile a bit bowed. The lid lining inside is a bit crinkled too. It is, however, still structurally sound.
I have fully restored this set - both items work nicely. Not a rare set, but unusual to find in such nice condition.
