A very attractive full-sized and rather unusual Spot pen, made by Mentmore. This example is in excellent condition. with the aid of a loupe I can see a tiny bit of plating wear to the upper edge of the pocket clip, the upper surface of the pocket clip ball terminal, and a little foxing to the filling lever. none of this is readily apparent without magnification. Both cap and barrel are made from glossy jet black celluloid, with a lovely sharp and crisp machine-applied barleycorn pattern chasing. They have no noticeable scratches or any other damage that I can see. The cap has a large flat black hard rubber top button that bears the large white spot and holds on the gold filled and ball-ended pocket clip that has the Mentmore "M" on the shoulder. Near the cap lip is a single narrow gold plated band. This is a lever filled pen. The rather robust-looking filling lever is also gold plated, and the Mentmore "M" imprinted on the end tab. To the side of the barrel is a lovely large and crisp imprint which includes the Spot leopard trade-mark. The nib is a nice large 14 carat Spot in what looks to be an extra-fine point size. This also has the leopard logo imprinted on it.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib is nice and smooth and lays down a great wet and consistent extra-fine width line. The nib is a soft one - I would say just about semi-flexible - It will write with variation in line width from an extra-fine to a medium with normal writing pressure, and can easily go to a broad if you apply a little extra pressure.
