Date: c1953
Size: Length - 4 13/16 inches extended, 3 3/4 inches retracted.
A mid 20th Century sterling silver pencil in the form of a hunting horn in excellent condition. This is an extending pencil - you twist the end finial to extend the writing point, and then you twist the knurled part at the base of the point to extend the 1.1mm lead. This will only extend the lead - it does not automatically retract. You twist the finial in the opposite direction to retract the point again. It is fully hallmarked with the V&J maker's mark and a date code for 1953. The bell part unscrews so you can store some spare leads in the stem.
There is a further stamp on the bell of the horn "SWAINE-BRIGG LONDON" / "MADE IN ENGLAND". I am guessing that Swaine-Brigg were the retailers.
A beautiful novelty pencil in excellent condition.
