This very pretty jet black Sheaffer Cadet is in very good condition. It has a tiny bit of plating wear to the lower edge of the cap band, but you are not going to see that without using a loupe. The cap and barrel are nice and glossy with no noticeable scratches or any other damage. The Cadet was a budget pen, combining the legendary Sheaffer high quality with a lower price. It was marketed alongside the more famous Pen For Men and after the other Touchdown range had been discontinued. This is the "Flagship" of the Cadet range with a 14-carat gold nib. The cap has a Sheaffer's chrome plated tapered pocket clip and a chrome plated cap band. The knurled barrel end blind cap unscrews easily and the Touchdown plunger can be withdrawn. All the internal mechanism is as new and shiny with no damage. The pen has a very clear imprint on the barrel, and it and the nib proclaim this to be an American-made Sheaffer. The nib is a Sheaffer's 14 carat gold nib in an extra-fine point.
I have fully serviced this pen. It writes with a lovely wet and consistent extra-fine width line. few manufacturers made a real needlepoint nib like Sheaffer's did, and this one is a pleasure to use.
Only made between 1961 and 1963, this is quite an uncommon pen, especially in this condition. Being in the slightly cheaper Sheaffer range these pens were generally bought to be used and so when they turn up on the second-hand market they have usually been used to death. This one is a pleasant exception.
