A beautiful glossy burgundy TM Touchdown set. Unfortunately, the pencil has been in the wars a bit and has a crack at the top of the cap adjacent to the pocket clip. I have stabilised the crack so it is unlikely to get any worse, but because of this I have priced the set as I would the fountain pen only, so you are basically getting the pencil for free. Both caps have spring-loaded gold-filled tapered pocket clips with the Sheaffer white dot above and a wide gold filled cap lip band below.
The knurled barrel end blind cap unscrews smoothly for the withdrawal of the Touchdown plunger. There is no barrel imprint on this pen, which is not unusual for a TM Touchdown. The black plastic ribbed section has an amber tinted visualated "window". Visibility is good, with just a bit of internal ink staining to one side. The Touchdown mechanism is in excellent and as-new condition. The nib is a lovely two tone 14 carat gold Sheaffer in a fine point. As usual, the platinum mask at the forward end of the nib is starting to show some wear to the edges.
The cap pulls off to reveal the lead storage area. The orignial eraser is missing. There are no spare leads in this pencil, but I have fitted a fresh 0.9mm lead into the pencil's mechanism so it is ready to go.
I have fully serviced this set. The nib is nice and smooth and writes effortlessly with a wet and fine consistent line. The pencil is working perfectly.
A shame about the damage to the pencil, but an unusual set regardless.
