A rather unusual late model Blackbird. What is unusual about this pen is that it is made from casein. I did not know that Mabie, Todd & Co. ever made casein pens until this one turned up. It is in very good condition with the only damage being some plating wear to the pocket clip. As usual, this looks 10 times worse on the close-up photos than it does with the unaided eye. Without magnification, it looks like some minor thinning of the plate and no more. This pen has a superb glossy blue marbled cap and barrel and I can't see any noticeable scratches or other damage on it. The cap has a gold filled stud at the top which holds on the tapered and gold filled pocket clip. This thas "BLACKBIRD" imprinted down the stem. There is a narrow gold filled band near the cap lip. The barrel end tapers to quite a point. The filling lever is quite narrow with a small circular end tab. It too is gold filled. The nib is a Blackbird made from 14 carat gold. This one is in a medium point with a stubby appearance..
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib is very smooth when writing. It is a soft nib, and coupled with its square-cut stub tip this enables it to produce some very attractive and effortless line width variation from a fine to a broad line.
