This Swan pen is of the "torpedo" shaped model that was introduced in the late 1940s. It is in the unusual brown/burgundy colour that sets off the gold filled trim so well. It is also in very good condition. I can see a little plating wear to the ball-shaped pocket clip terminal and a few tiny spots to the shoulder of the pocket clip. There is also a tiny bit of foxing to the plating of the filling lever. Both cap and barrel are lovely and glossy with no chips, splits or cracks. All the trim is gold filled . The cap has a rounded top and a Swan ball-ended pocket clip with the Swan emblem at the top. There are also two narrow cap bands. A nice touch on this pen are the brass barrel threads. The barrel imprint is still in excellent condition, being deep and crisp. The filling lever is narrow and straight. The nib is a Mabie Todd No. 3 in 14 carat gold and in a medium-fine point.
I have fully serviced this pen. It writes very smoothly and the nib is soft and gives some attractive if understated line width variation from a fine to a medium width as you write.
A very attractive pen and an excellent writer.
