BU111 Burnham Pencil
BU111 Burnham Pencil
Date: c1950s
Size: Length - 129mm.
It is very hard to find these very late-production pencils. It might not look like much, but it is an old-stock item that represents the last gasp of the Burnham company before it ceased trading. It is not a particularly high-quality pencil in either materials or manufacture, and it would have been a relatively inexpensive item when it was new. The discolouration to the gold-tone cap and also to the gold plated pocket clip and point are not through use, but rather through natural deterioration that comes with age.
The pencil has a gold-tone metal cap that is fitted with a tapering gold plated Burnham pocket clip. This cap pulls off to reveal an unused but time-fossilized pink eraser. The barrel is a typical 1950s pastel grey colour and the point, which you twist to extend and retract the 1.18mm lead, is also gold plated. The pencil is fitted with its original 1.18mm lead and is working perfectly.
