WA719 Waterman's No. W3 Fountain Pen and Pencil Set, boxed. (Soft Fine)
Date: c1950
Size: Capped - 130mm; posted - 157mm.
This late forties / early fifties English Waterman set is made from a very attractive pastel green celluloid with gold filled trim. Both pieces are in very good condition with the only damage on them that I can see being some thinning to the plating on the pocket clips. The caps have a gold filled top button holding on the Waterman's pocket clip. There is also a single wide and milled gold filled cap band.
Fountain Pen
The barrel imprint is deep and crisp and sharp and looks like it might have been made yesterday. The filling lever is of the typical Waterman spade-ended type. The section is in jet black hard rubber. The Waterman's No. W-2B 14 carat gold nib is in lovely undamaged condition and in a medium point.
Pencil
A propel-repel pencil that works by twisting the cap. The cap pulls off to reveal the broken-off stub of the original pink eraser. The barrel on the pencil also has a very crisp imprint. I have installed a fresh 1.18mm lead into the mechanism, so it is all ready to go.
Box
The original paperboard presentation box has a gold coloured lid with a deep burgundy-coloured base. Inside is a white corded fabric pad. The box has a split corner to the lid, but is otherwise in very nice condition. Also in the box are the original instruction sheets.
I have fully serviced this set. The pen writes very nicely with a very smooth, fine width and wet line. The nib does have a little softness to it, and it will provide for a tiny bit of line width variation as you write.
