CS1137 Conway Stewart No. 28, boxed. (Soft Broad)

Date: c1950s

Size: Capped - 132mm, posted - 162mm.

A very pretty and glossy silver and grey marbled Conway Stewart with the candy stripe marking.  It is quite unusual to find a Conway Stewart made from this pattern of celluloid rod stock.  The pen's condition is very good - in fact, it is undamaged apart from the usual plating wear to the pocket clip and cap tassie.  The pen's shape and proportions remind me a lot of a smaller version of the No. 58 pen.  The cap has a conical black top jewel that holds on the washer style pocket clip.  The clip has the "CS" monogram within a diamond shaped cartouche at the top and another diamond at the bottom.   There is also a single gold filled cap band.  The barrel also has a conical shaped end.  It bears a good clear and complete imprint and has a small gold filled filling lever.  This has a circular end tab with the "CS" monogram again within a diamond shaped cartouche.  The black hard rubber section, also undamaged and glossy, holds the large and undamaged Conway Stewart No. 5 nib in 14 carat gold.  This one is a broad point.  The box is also in nice shape - it has a dedication hand-written on the underside and the original instruction sheet is inside.

I have fully serviced this pen.  The nib is very smooth and writes a lovely wet and broad line.  It is a soft nib and will even manage a little line width variation as you write.
