The Esterbrook LJ, whilst being as long as the full-sized J, is slimmer, being the same thickness as the shorter SJ.  This is an early 1950s Esterbrook in the very attractive marbled red colour.  This is an English-made pen.  It is in excellent, near pristine, condition with no splits, cracks or chips and no noticeable surface scratches either.  Very unusually, it still has the original paper sales label wrapped around the cap, which even includes the original selling price of 18/6! The top of the cap and end of the barrel are both decorated with stepped black "jewels".  The pocket clip is ribbed and chrome plated, as is the cap band and filling lever.  All the trim is completely undamaged with no brassing.  The barrel imprint is lovely, crisp and clear and easily read. The nib is a No. 2550 Extra-Fine Posting renew-point.  These stainless steel nibs are screw-in units and are interchangeable with other Esterbrook Re-new points.  This one is undamaged.  This pen is presented in a Christmas decorated box - I do not know if it is the original box that the pen would have been sold in, but it does look very nice, and I am selling the pen with the box anyway.  

I have fully serviced this pen.  The nib writes with a good, wet and consistent extra fine width line.  It is smooth on the paper with a little tooth, which is pretty much par for the course with these very firm and rather fine nibs, but if you need to use multi-part stationery, this is the sort of nib you need.  Also good for everyday fine writing, of course.
