MS916 "Rufford" Propelling Pencil.
MS916 "Rufford" Propelling Pencil.
Date: c1930s
Size: Length - 113mm.
The Rufford writing instruments were retailed in Boot's The Chemist in the 1920s and 1930s. The lovely Rufford pencil is in excellent condition and is probably from the 1930s. It is made from a very attractive bronze and black marbled celluloid with a black top button and gold plated trim. The plating on the point, which you rotate to extend and retract the 1.18mm lead, has some discolouration to it, and that is really the only damage I can see on this pencil. It is fitted with a ball-ended pocket clip. The imprint to the side of the barrel is very crisp and clear. I have fitted a fresh 1.18mm lead into the mechanism, so it is all ready to write.
I have fully serviced this pencil. It works perfectly and is a really attractive piece.
