WA731 Waterman's W3. (Soft Broad)
Date: c 1946
Size: Capped - 128mm; posted - 151mm.
A very pretty glossy silver grey striped W3. This mid-sized post-war American-made Waterman is in very good condition. Apart from a little bit of plating wear to the shoulder of the pocket clip and to the lower edge of the cap band, I found no damage on this pen. The cap has a gold filled top button and gold filled Waterman's pocket clip. The cap band is also gold filled, is quite wide and has a very unusual incised line decoration. The barrel imprint is crisp and deep. This is a rather unbusual American made W3 - the vast majority of these pens that I see are English. The filling lever is also gold filled with a spade-shaped end tab. The large W3 nib is in 14 carat gold and has a medium width point.
I have fully serviced this pen. It fills easily and writes very nicely. The nib is very smooth and writes with a lovely wet and broad width line. The nib also has some softness to it - it has a lovely springy action and will even manage a little line width variation.
An unusual American Waterman in very nice condition.
