This beautiful, glossy casein pen set has a really lovely marbled pattern of burgundy and black with gold veining.  This set is in excellent condition, with the only thing to mention being some mild foxing to the plating on the pencil's point.  This is not wear or damage per se, but is a natural ageing of the gold plate.  Where it is thinly applied, there is a tendency for the base metal to work its way through the plating over a period of time.  That is why you see this so often, and in the strange spiral pattern too.  Other than that, all is in fantastically good condition.  The caps have a gold plated top button that holds on the tapered Burnham pocket clip.  There are also three narrow gold plated cap bands.  

Fountain Pen

The barrel imprint is crisp and clear with no noticeable wear.  Opposite, the gold-plated filling lever still has all of its gold plating and is unmarked.  The nib is the original Burnham and is made from 14-carat gold.  It is in a medium point.

Pencil

A propel-repel pencil that works by twisting the gold plated cone.  The cap unscrews to reveal an unused pink eraser.  I have also installed a fresh 1.18mm lead into the mechanism, so all is ready to go.  

I have fully serviced this set.  The pen nib is very smooth in action and writes very well with a lovely, wet and consistent line.  The nib is lovely and flexible, and it will produce some great line width variation from a fine to a solid broad with very little effort.   

A really beautiful set in excellent condition.
