BU175 Burnham No. 51. (Semi-Flexible Medium)
Date: c1940s
Size: Capped - 123mm; posted - 145mm.
This glossy blue marbled celluloid pen with gold veining has a classic flat-topped shape and was probably made in the 1940s. It is in excellent condition, with the only damage that I was able to spot being some minor plating wear to the cap band. This is shorter-sized Burnham pen. The cap has a slightly conical-ended, large black top button that holds on the gold plated pocket clip. This has a tapered shape with fluting down the sides and "BURNHAM" imprinted down the stem. There is a single cap band near the lip. The barrel imprint is beautifully crisp and clear. Opposite is the gold plated filling lever. This has a longish, straight shaft with no end tab. The nib is the original Burnham example and made from 14 carat gold. It is in a medium point.
I have fully serviced this pen. The nib is very smooth in action and writes very well with a soft, springy action. It is a semi-flexible nib that will give you some very attractive line width variation from a fine to a good, generous broad width.
