A beautiful Burnham No. B59 in splendid and very glossy jet black casein.  The pen is in lovely condition with no cracks, splits or chips to either cap or barrel.  There are no noticeable surface scratches either.  There is not even any of the usual plating wear on this pen.  The plating on these pens was just a gold wash really so rubs off at the slightest use.  The cap is topped with a gold plated button that holds on the tapered clip.   This has "BURNHAM" imprinted down the stem.  The three cap bands and filling lever are also gold plated.   This pen has a good sized nib marked "Burnham 14 carat gold".  It is still nice and shiny, and in a medium width point.  The original box is also still in very good condition.  There is some minor corner and edge wear and the lettering on the lid has faded a bit over the years.

I have fully serviced this pen.   The nib writes well - very smooth and produces a good wet and medium width line.  It has some softness to it and writes with a good springy action.  I would describe this as a semi-flexible nib and it will provide for some lovely line width variation from a fine to a solid broad with very little effort on the part of the writer.

A very nice little 50s Burnham.  Burnhams seem to have appreciated in value a fair bit over the last couple of years and good examples like this one are getting hard to find.
