PA3772 Parker 51 Custom Aerometric Fountain Pen and Pencil Set, boxed. (Medium)

Date: c1950s

Size: Capped - 138mm; posted - 153mm.

A lovely glossy English India black Parker 51 set in its original presentation box.  Both pen and pencil are in excellent condition with no damage at all noted to either piece.   The all-gold-filled caps are decorated with the "converging line" pattern - they have no brassing or noticeable scratches.  The barrels are scratchless and very glossy.  Both caps have a clear grey top jewel with a gold filled Parker arrow pocket clip.

Fountain Pen

The barrel unscrews to reveal the Aerometric filler, which is in excellent, undamaged and shiny condition.  The original pliglass ink sac is still installed and has just the usual internal ink staining.  The barrel has a shallow but complete imprint at the forward end.  This is an English-made set.  The gold hooded nib is in a medium point and made from 14 carat gold.

Pencil

This is a rotary pencil.  You can twist the cap in order to extend and retract the 0.9mm leads.  The cap pulls off to reveal the stub of the original but broken off pink eraser.  I have installed a fresh 0.9mm lead in the mechanism.  The pencil works perfectly.

Box

This is the original black and white polka-dot hard shell case.  It is in very clean condition, though inside, the silk lining does have quite pronounced age-related darkening.  It is structurally in excellent condition, though.

I have fully serviced this set.  The nib writes very smoothly.  It works very well and produces a wet and consistent medium width line.

The '51 Custom pens are very hard to find in nice condition.  This one has the advantage of a matching pencil and the original presentation box.
