PA3810 Parker New Slimfold Fountain Pen, Ballpoint and Pencil Set, boxed. (Medium)

Date: c1970s

Size: Capped - 128mm; posted - 137mm.

A beautiful example of the most uncommon of the Slimfolds.  The "New" Slimfold looks outwardly almost identical to the Parker 45, but sports a screw-on cap.  It was introduced late in 1971, and was discontinued in 1975, so it only had a short production run and is very difficult to find today.  The ballpoint is even more difficult to find, and it is so rare to find them in a matching set like this, let alone in a threesome with a pencil. All the pieces are in excellent condition with no damage noted, and to me, it looks likely that they have hardly ever actually been used.  Both barrels and caps are lovely and glossy, and the chrome-plated trim is all in lovely, bright condition.  The caps have a chrome-plated top button, with a chrome-plated Parker arrow pocket clip and a narrow chrome-plated lip band.

Fountain Pen

The barrel unscrews to allow the fitting of either a standard Parker ink cartridge or, if you prefer bottled ink, you can use the original Parker ink converter that is already fitted to the pen.  The nib is made from 14 carat gold and has a medium width point.

Ballpoint Pen

The ballpoint pen has a chrome-plated point.  It is a retractable pen that works by pressing down on the cap to extend and retract the writing point.  The cap also unscrews to allow changing the refill.  It is currently fitted with what is likely to be the original Parker refill that is still working well, but it will take any G2 style refill, so there is a very wide choice available.

Pencil

The pencil is of the propel-repel type and works by twisting the cap.  The cap will also pull off to reveal an apparently unused, but age-hardened pink eraser.  Below this are some spare 0.9mm leads.  I have fitted a fresh 0.9mm lead into the mechanism, and it is all ready to go.

Box

The original box is made from black textured paperboard.  One of the front corners of the lid has split, but otherwise it is in very nice condition.  Inside, the pad is made from a flocked red material.  The original instruction sheet is also still present.  The lid is lined with white satin.

I have fully serviced this set.  The fountain pen writes very well, producing a very smooth, wet, medium-width line.  The ballpoint pen and pencil both work perfectly.

A rather unusual pen set in beautiful condition.
