A medium-sized M400 fountain pen in old-stock condition.  This pen has only ever been dipped once by me to get the writing sample below.  Otherwise, it has sat for 10 years or so in its box and has not seen the light of day. The M400 is the gold-trimmed version.  The cap has the famous Pelikan logo at the end etched into the gold plated top "jewel", and with a gold plated pelican beak pocket clip and twin gold plated cap bands.  The wider band at the lip bears the pen's imprint - "PELIKAN SOUVERAN GERMANY".  The blind cap at the end of the barrel is twisted to operate the piston filling mechanism.  The nicely sized nib is made from 18ct solid gold.  It is a two-tone nib in an extra-fine point.  The original box has the original white leatherette pouch to protect the pen, with the original instruction sheet below the pad.  The box is also in excellent condition - the white paperboard outer slipcase is still also here.  

I did just dip the nib to get the writing sample below.  The nib feels very smooth when writing, and has the typical generous-width line that you often get from the gold nibbed Pelikan pens.  This writes more like a traditional fine point nib with a little bit of softness and some understated line width variation.
