A rather unusual late model Blackbird fountain pen and pencil set.  The pen is in excellent condition with the only damage noted being a tiny bit of wear to the gold plating, mainly on the pocket clips.  Both pieces had lovely glossy barrels and caps.  The pocket clips are also gold filled, tapering down their lengths with "BLACKBIRD" imprinted down the centre of the stem and fluting to the edges.

Fountain Pen

This is a lever filled pen with a narrow stem and a small circular end tab.  It is very clean with no brassing or other damage.  The barrel imprint t is around the forward end of the barrel, and whilst shallow, it is complete and fairly easy to read.  The Blackbird nib is made from 14-carat gold and is in an extra fine point. 

Pencil.

This is a propel-repel type pencil that works by twisting the point.  It also has a lovely crisp imprint to the side of the barrel.  The cap unscrews to reveal a partly used, and age-hardened pink eraser.  I have fitted a fresh 1.18mm lead into the mechanism, and it is all ready to go.  

Box

A lovely red patterend paperboard box  with just a little minor edge and corner wear to the outer surface.  Inside, it is very clean and still contains the original instructions for the fountain pen and the pencil.

I have fully serviced this set.  The pen's nib is nice and smooth when writing.  It is a rather soft nib.  It will produce some understated but still very attractrive line width variation from an extra-fine to a fine width.  The pencil works perfectly.
